Jakarta – Andrie Yunus, who was attacked with caustic liquid on the evening of Thursday, 12 March, is undergoing intensive recovery in the High Care Unit (HCU) at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta, according to Jane Rosalina, Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division at KontraS.

Jane stated that the victim’s recovery duration cannot yet be determined with certainty whilst undergoing intensive care. The treatment process is predicted to require a considerable length of time, given the experience of former KPK investigator Novel Baswedan, who suffered from a similar acid attack and underwent recovery lasting several months.

“We also cannot confirm how long it will take because the timeframe is quite lengthy. Looking at the eye and skin treatment that Novel Baswedan underwent alone, it took several months,” she explained during an intercept interview at the YLBHI Building in Central Jakarta on Monday.

Jane further clarified that the hospital has successfully administered initial treatment for the inflammatory reaction caused by the caustic liquid exposure to the victim’s eyes. She dispelled circulating misinformation on social media claiming that Andrie’s eyes had undergone transplantation or involved removal of vital organs.

“The information circulating that Andrie’s eyes were transplanted and so on is incorrect. We from KontraS confirm that this is false regarding the treatment,” she stated.

According to Jane, KontraS is unable to provide further details regarding medical records, and an official statement will be published directly by the hospital. Andrie will undergo various medical procedures not only relating to his eyes but also concerning his skin and other issues, the details of which will be confirmed by the hospital.
