KontraS Demands Full Investigation of Andrie Yunus Case Up to Command Structure
The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) has emphasised that the case of the acid attack on its activist, Andrie Yunus, must be fully uncovered, extending to the upper command structure or the intellectual actors behind the incident. This statement was delivered by the Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of KontraS, Jane Rosalina, during a public discussion organised by the Indonesia Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday (30/3/2026).
“The revelation of the case must not stop at the field perpetrators but must trace up to those who gave the orders. Moreover, this step aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s previous statement, as released in Mata Najwa, which described the acid splashing incident against Andrie Yunus as a form of terrorism that must be thoroughly dismantled. Even President Prabowo has guaranteed this,” Jane said.
Jane stressed that KontraS emphasises the important role of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in investigating this case transparently and accountably. On the other hand, Jane said, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) must provide a thorough investigation of the case to the police so that it can be tried through the general courts.
She reminded that if the case revelation is not conducted seriously, it could potentially raise public doubts about the government’s commitment to upholding legal justice and protecting civil liberties in Indonesia.
“Moreover, KontraS together with Andrie Yunus has been actively voicing opposition to the revision of the TNI Law and pushing for more democratic and humane security sector reforms in Indonesia,” Jane said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhamad Isnur, on the same occasion highlighted the increasing pattern of terror, doxing, and intimidation against human rights activists, civil society organisations, and critical influencers. According to him, if various such cases are not resolved, the public may doubt the Prabowo–Gibran administration’s commitment to safeguarding democracy and human rights.
“The acid splashing and criminalisation cases against activists must not be normalised. The state must be present because only the state has the authority and resources to uncover them,” Isnur stressed.
Meanwhile, criminal law expert from Binus University, Ahmad Sofyan, emphasised that the acid splashing case against Andrie Yunus must be processed through the general courts, not military courts.
“The incident can be categorised as an attempted premeditated murder, so law enforcement must investigate up to the parties giving the orders. The principle of the rule of law demands equality of every citizen before the law without any immunity,” Sofyan explained.
Previously, the Commander of the TNI Military Police Centre (Danpuspom) Yusri Nuryanto confirmed in a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap that his side had named four soldiers as suspects in the acid splashing case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. The alleged perpetrators are now detained to undergo further legal proceedings.
Yusri emphasised that this case will be processed through the military court mechanism in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 3 of 2025 on the TNI.
Challenges in law enforcement often lie not in technical capabilities but in the institutions’ willingness to transparently reveal facts when the case touches internal domains.
The TNI has affirmed its commitment to law enforcement regarding the acid splashing case against Andrie Yunus. The perpetrators face firm sanctions up to dismissal.
