The Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division at the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras), Jane Rosalina, stated that the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of Kontras, has received attention from civil society, state institutions, and international networks.

Although the case has garnered significant public attention, Jane said visits to Andrie’s treatment location at the National Central General Hospital Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) in Jakarta are not necessary. The reason is that Andrie is currently undergoing medical treatment.

“Patients have the right to receive more intensive protection of their privacy and peace of mind during treatment,” she said at the YLBHI Office in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Jane stated that RSCM doctors have managed the inflammatory reaction from the acidic fluid to Andrie Yunus’s eyes. Jane expressed concern that if Andrie continues to receive visits, he would not be able to obtain maximum recovery space and would disrupt the recovery process.

She was also concerned that attention to Andrie’s condition might overshadow the law enforcement process. She urged civil society and state institutions to focus on the law enforcement process. Kontras hopes that the law enforcement process can proceed seriously, impartially, and transparently.

Kontras also encouraged efforts to identify the perpetrators. Both the field perpetrators and the intellectual architects behind the acid attack against Andrie.

She called on the public to monitor the legal process underway. This case, according to Jane, must be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators prosecuted in accordance with legal provisions.

On Saturday, 14 March 2026, Jane stated that Andrie Yunus suffered approximately 24 per cent burns after being doused with acid by an unknown person. Andrie underwent surgery on his eyes at the National Central General Hospital Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) in Central Jakarta.

Andrie was attacked by two unknown individuals on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, around 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. At that time, he was on his way home after participating in a podcast recording at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office with the topic “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review of the Armed Forces Law”.

The perpetrators allegedly rode a motorcycle and splashed the corrosive liquid towards the victim before fleeing.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra suspected that the attack on Andrie had an organised pattern.

According to Yusril, the pattern of the attack suggests the possibility of planning, so the investigation of the case should not stop at the field perpetrators.

“The pattern of the attack appears to be planned and organised, so the investigation of this incident should not stop at the executor level, but should also uncover the intellectual actors behind it,” said Yusril in a written statement on Friday, 13 March 2026.

He requested law enforcement officials, particularly the National Police (Polri), to investigate the case thoroughly until they find those behind the attack.

“I urge law enforcement officials, particularly Polri, to ensure a thorough investigation up to the intellectual actors, not just the perpetrators of the attack in the field,” he said.

Yusril said he had coordinated with investigators at the Metro Jaya Regional Police and the National Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, who are currently investigating the case. To date, authorities have not provided public updates on the investigation.
