KontraS: Andrie Yunus's Condition Has Improved and He Is Receiving Further Treatment
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of KontraS, Jane Rosalina, revealed that the condition of KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus is now improving and he is undergoing further treatment in the high-level intensive care unit (HCU) at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Jakarta.
“We are fortunate that Andrie’s condition has improved and he has been handled very well by the doctors and hospital staff on duty,” Jane said during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In an official release from RSCM in Jakarta on Monday (16/3), she said the hospital initially stated, based on initial calculations upon arrival at the Emergency Installation (IGD), that Andrie was diagnosed with burns covering around 24 percent due to an inflammatory reaction from a caustic liquid that hit his skin.
However, after that, the doctor in charge of Andrie re-evaluated and recorded the burns at around 20 percent on body areas, along with chemical trauma to the right eye with a severity degree of 3 (acute phase).
She said that this condition also caused a decrease in vision and damage to the cornea that occurred at the initial incident.
But after Andrie underwent debridement of damaged tissue on the right eye and amniotic membrane transplantation (TMA) to protect the eye surface and support the healing process, Jane stated that her colleague’s condition is improving further.
Meanwhile, on the neck, chest, and right arm areas, she continued, there are still quite deep wounds that cannot yet be grafted, so the surgical procedure may need to be done more than once.
“For that, we ask for prayers and solidarity from all friends for the recovery and rehabilitation of our colleague. Further updates and official statements will of course be conveyed through RSCM’s Public Relations officially via press release,” she said.
Currently, she revealed that Andrie is being treated in the HCU at RSCM to receive monitoring and further comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of eye specialists, plastic surgeons, reconstructive plastic surgeons, and emergency medical team.
Furthermore, she explained that therapy for Andrie has already been extensively provided by the doctors and medical staff on duty.
On the other hand, Jane, representing Andrie, his legal counsel, and family, prohibited visits from anyone for the sake of Andrie’s security and right to receive higher quality health services as well as protection in accordance with patient rights guaranteed by law.
Previously, the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) detained four TNI personnel suspected of involvement in the acid splashing case against Andrie.
“So, now these four suspects have been secured at Puspom TNI for further investigation to the prosecution level,” said TNI Puspom Commander Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The four individuals detained by Puspom TNI are TNI members serving at the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS) TNI. The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.
Nevertheless, Yusri could not yet provide the motive for the acid splashing as the examination process is still ongoing.
