Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), remains in intensive care at the High Care Unit (HCU) of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta following a caustic liquid attack on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.

The medical team continues to closely monitor Andrie’s condition, whilst the recovery process is expected to require considerable time. Jane Rosalina, Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division at KontraS, stated that Andrie’s treatment remains in the intensive stage, making it impossible to determine the length of hospitalisation required.

“The victim is in the High Care Unit and we cannot be certain how long he will remain there,” Jane said during a press conference at the Indonesia Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) building in Central Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Jane added that Andrie’s recovery process will likely be prolonged, based on similar cases such as that experienced by senior KPK investigator Novel Baswedan, whose eye and skin recovery required several months.

“We also cannot confirm the duration because it will indeed be quite lengthy. Looking at the eye and skin treatment that Novel Baswedan underwent alone took months,” she explained.

The medical team at RSCM has provided initial treatment for the inflammatory reaction resulting from caustic liquid exposure to Andrie Yunus’s eyes.

“In this case, the hospital has successfully provided at least the initial treatment for the inflammatory reaction from exposure of caustic liquid to the eyes of our colleague Andrie Yunus,” she said.

Jane also firmly denied circulating reports on social media regarding an eye transplant or removal of Andrie’s vital organs.

“Information circulating saying Andrie’s eyes were transplanted and so on is incorrect. We from KontraS confirm that this is false regarding the treatment,” Jane stated definitively.

Jane noted that Andrie will undergo several further medical procedures, not only for the eyes but also for skin affected by the caustic liquid. However, detailed information on the victim’s medical condition will be officially confirmed by the hospital.

“Andrie will undergo several medical procedures, not only related to the eyes, but also the skin and other matters. However, that answer will be confirmed directly by the hospital,” she concluded.

Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, condemned the caustic liquid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Habiburokhman stated that human rights defenders work in the interests of the people and the state, and therefore their safety must be guaranteed by law.
