RSUP National Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) conducted follow-up surgery on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, who is a victim of an acid attack. The medical team discovered a condition of ischaemia.

According to an official press release received, ischaemia is a lack of blood flow in the inferior area of the sclera of the eye. In this case, ischaemia occurred in the right eye around 40 percent, causing thinning of the surrounding tissue.

“Based on that evaluation, it was decided to carry out further action to maintain the tissue condition and support the healing process. On Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at 10:00 WIB, the patient underwent integrated surgery involving a team of eye specialists and plastic surgeons in the Kencana operating room,” stated the official RSCM statement, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Through this latest surgical procedure, the RSCM eye team performed tissue relocation from the inner eye area to cover the open area, attachment of an amniotic membrane, and reinstallation of the eye protective lens. This action aims to improve the surface of the eyeball and support more optimal tissue healing.

During the procedure, progressive thinning of the corneal tissue was also found in the upper part to the outer side of the right eye cornea, which occurred as a result of the ongoing inflammation process.

To address that condition, the medical team applied additional amniotic membrane and suturing, along with the right eyelid to protect the eye surface and maximise the tissue recovery process.

In this surgery, the RSCM plastic surgery team carried out further removal of dead tissue (debridement) and skin grafting on the eye, chest, and shoulder areas as part of efforts to accelerate burn wound healing. Further evaluation of the wound condition is planned for Saturday (28/3).

“The main focus of the current treatment is to maintain the integrity of the right eyeball and control the inflammation process so that it does not develop further,” stated the RSCM.

The medical personnel are still conducting close monitoring of AY’s condition and continuing intensive care on an ongoing basis. RSCM states that it remains committed to providing optimal services and prioritising patient safety.
