KontraS Activist Attacked with Corrosive Liquid; Police Reveal Latest Victim Condition

The Indonesian National Police have released an update on the condition of Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), following his attack with corrosive liquid. According to Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the victim remains under medical care and is not yet receiving visitors.

“He is still receiving treatment and cannot yet have visitors,” Budi Hermanto stated on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, when an unknown assailant attacked Yunus with suspected corrosive liquid in the Salemba area of Central Jakarta. The victim received immediate medical treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced that President Prabowo Subianto has issued a direct order for a thorough, professional and transparent investigation into the attack. The investigation will employ scientific crime investigation methodology to ensure all procedures are conducted objectively and are based on evidence.

“I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a comprehensive, professional and transparent investigation,” Sigit said whilst visiting Gubeng Station in Surabaya.

The police chief explained that the investigative process incorporates a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure each stage of case handling is objective and evidence-based.

The police are currently gathering various information related to the incident for subsequent in-depth analysis. “We are currently collecting information, which we will then analyse one by one,” Sigit stated.

The case is being investigated by the Central Jakarta Police. Police have confirmed that the victim has received medical treatment following the incident. The investigation into the identity and motives of the unknown assailant remains ongoing.
