KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus Transferred to High Care Unit Following Acid Attack
JAKARTA — Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has been transferred to the High Care Unit (HCU) at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta following an acid attack by an unknown assailant.
Jane Rosalina, Head of the Impunity Division at KontraS, stated that Yunus has been moved to the ninth-floor HCU, where visits are temporarily restricted to family members and one KontraS representative whilst he undergoes intensive care.
“We ask for prayers and support for Andrie’s recovery from afar,” Rosalina said. She also urged the public not to share photographs or videos of Yunus’s hospital condition from unofficial sources, requesting that such material not be distributed on social media or in group chats.
The attack occurred on the evening of 12 March 2026 at approximately 23:37 local time as Yunus was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang in Senen District, Central Jakarta. According to Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS’s Working Body, the incident involved two perpetrators on a motorcycle.
The first perpetrator, who was driving, wore a white and blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet. The second perpetrator, seated behind, wore a black face covering resembling a buff that obscured half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers rolled up short and believed to be denim.
One of the perpetrators sprayed acid in the direction of Yunus, striking portions of his body. The attack resulted in burn injuries to his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes.
