KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus Screams in Pain After Being Doused with Caustic Liquid

JAKARTA — Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), screamed in pain after being doused with caustic liquid by two unknown assailants on Jalan Salemba, Senen District, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 13 March 2026.

Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS Working Board, stated that residents immediately surrounded Andrie following the incident.

“The caustic liquid struck the right side of the victim’s body, particularly his eyes, face, chest and hands, causing the victim (Andrie) to scream until he stopped and fell off his motorcycle,” Dimas said during a press conference at the YLBHI Office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Friday, 13 March 2026.

“Based on Andrie’s account, he continuously screamed for help, saying ‘Aah, aah, aah it’s hot’,” he added.

As Andrie called for assistance, a bystander immediately questioned his identity. The individual was described as having a shaved head.

“When the victim screamed for help, a bystander directly said ‘This person is from KontraS, isn’t he? This person is from LBH (Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation)’,” Dimas explained.

Dimas disclosed that Andrie’s shirt melted shortly after being doused with the caustic liquid. Andrie immediately removed the clothing he was wearing.

“Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator of the attack immediately sped away quickly towards Salemba I towards Jalan Salemba Raya,” Dimas stated.

The suspected perpetrator also dropped a stainless steel glass whilst attempting to flee the scene.

Afterwards, Andrie retrieved his motorcycle and headed to his rented house in Menteng via a back route. Andrie subsequently received medical treatment.
