Kontras activist Andrie Yunus begins outpatient care after a month at RSCM
Kontras activist Andrie Yunus, a victim of an acid attack believed to involve a member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), is reported to have started outpatient care since mid-April 2026. Previously, the victim spent a month in intensive care at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Central Jakarta, due to serious burns.
The information was delivered by Plastic Surgery Specialist Parintosa Atmodiwirjo, who attended as an expert witness in proceedings at Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. According to medical records, Andrie began treatment on 13 March 2026 and was allowed to go home for outpatient care on 16 April 2026.
“Andrie has now begun outpatient care. So he is in outpatient care; I forget if I should reopen his records,” Parintosa said in court. In the proceedings, the defence counsel asked why Andrie did not attend in person despite having undergone outpatient care for more than a month. Responding to this, Parintosa explained that even at home, the patient’s physical condition remained highly vulnerable, especially after the skin graft procedure and eye trauma.
The medical team emphasised the importance of restricting activity to prevent infection or failure of the skin graft. Excessive mobility was seen as potentially disrupting the ongoing recovery process.
“With our permission, the person in question indeed underwent a skin graft with the risk of infection and graft failure. Therefore what we advised is that the person remain in a condition similar to when treated. So even at home, activities should be like those during treatment,” Parintosa asserted.
To date, the legal process against the suspected perpetrator continues at Military Court II-08 Jakarta to fully uncover the motive and mastermind behind the attack on the human rights activist.
