KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus, Acid Attack Victim, Receives Emergency Protection from LPSK

The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has provided emergency protection to Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), who became a victim of an acid attack by unknown perpetrators.

The victim sustained burns to multiple parts of his body and is currently receiving treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta.

LPSK Deputy Chair Sri Suparyati stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday that emergency protection was granted after the agency received a protection request from the victim’s family on 13 March 2026.

“This emergency protection aims to provide a sense of security to the victim immediately after the criminal act occurred,” Sri said.

According to her, LPSK immediately took initial action steps on 13-14 March 2026 by ensuring the victim’s medical needs were met and providing physical protection throughout the treatment process.

The LPSK team led by Sri Suparyati coordinated with RSCM regarding the victim’s medical treatment, communicated with the KontraS Board of Directors, and conducted an initial assessment with the victim’s family to identify further protection needs.

LPSK also deployed security personnel to provide close protection and monitoring of the victim during hospitalisation.

Sri explained that the emergency protection was provided whilst considering the victim’s security vulnerability, the requirements of the law enforcement process, and the medical condition requiring immediate treatment.

She conveyed that in meeting healthcare services for the victim, LPSK can collaborate with various parties, including the Ministry of Health and regional governments.

“LPSK has already taken emergency protection measures in the form of accompaniment, close protection or monitoring, and medical assistance for the victim during treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,” she said.

LPSK also urged law enforcement officials to swiftly identify the perpetrator of the acid attack so that the victim obtains justice and to prevent similar violence from recurring.

The incident involving Andrie Yunus is suspected to be aggravated assault committed by two perpetrators. The incident occurred around 23:00 WIB as the victim was returning home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
