Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Lieutenant General (Ret.) Marciano Norman has commended Chairman of the Indonesian Weightlifting Federation (PB PABSI) Rosan Roeslani for his achievements in bringing Indonesian weightlifting to prominence on the international stage.

Marciano Norman conveyed this during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani, who also serves as Chairman of PB PABSI.

"KONI headquarters conducted a courtesy visit, received directly by the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani. I am grateful and proud of Pak Rosan for his tremendous attention to Indonesian sport," said Marciano Norman in an official PB PABSI statement on Thursday.

"In weightlifting, Pak Rosan's leadership has proven to produce outstanding achievements. Now, other national sports under KONI need Pak Rosan's support," he added.

During the visit, Marciano also discussed plans for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON) in West Nusa Tenggara-East Nusa Tenggara (NTB-NTT), which is scheduled to proceed as planned. He noted that approximately 600-700 competition events would be held at PON 2028.

Furthermore, the sports to be contested will include those featuring at the 2028 Olympics, as well as a number of disciplines included in the National Sports Grand Design (DBON).

Regarding disciplines not included in the programme, Marciano revealed that KONI headquarters has prepared alternative multi-event competitions such as PON Martial Arts, PON Indoor, PON Beach, and PON Youth, which are held biennially.

Rosan Roeslani expressed his readiness to assist in the development of sporting disciplines domestically in pursuit of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. This is particularly significant given that under his stewardship, PB PABSI secured a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics through weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah.
