Komura to visit Indonesia
TOKYO (DPA): Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said on Friday he will express support for Indonesian plans to hold a general election next May as scheduled when he meets with Indonesian leaders next week.
At a news conference here, Komura said he appreciates efforts being made by the Indonesian government led by President B.J. Habibie to bring about political and economic reforms.
Komura made the remarks ahead of his departure on Monday for a six-day visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
Komura will arrive in Jakarta on Monday and will meet with Habibie and Foreign Minister Ali Alatas on Tuesday, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
He will fly to Canberra on Thursday to meet with Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and Prime Minister John Howard and will then travel on Friday to Wellington for talks with Foreign and Trade Minister Don McKinnon and Prime Minister Jenny Shipley.
