The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is urging the public to participate in supervising the investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement and fulfilment of coal supplies for a number of steam-powered electricity plants (PLTU). Public involvement is deemed crucial to ensure the case is handled professionally, transparently, and results in a deterrent effect for the perpetrators.

Kompolnas member Mohammad Choirul Anam stated that public oversight is a key factor in driving the law enforcement process to its maximum potential. He noted that the case not only concerns potential state losses but also impacts the wider community due to its effect on electricity services.

‘Let us jointly safeguard this case so that its disclosure is maximised, professional, and creates a deterrent effect. Therefore, we also invite the public to participate in this case by conducting oversight,’ Anam said when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday, 12 July 2026.

Anam explained that transparency from law enforcement officials in conveying the progress of the investigation is a crucial asset for the public to carry out its supervisory function over the ongoing legal process. He said that information regarding seizure results, investigation developments, and the case’s construction can serve as a basis for the public to ensure the legal process proceeds according to regulations and is free from intervention.

He assessed that such transparency is also part of efforts to prevent similar corrupt practices from recurring in the future. ‘This can be an important modality for public oversight, ensuring that corruption does not happen again and that in the context of this case, the results are maximised. Moreover, this is a case that directly intersects with the livelihoods of many people, not just state losses, but also direct losses to the community,’ he said.

In addition to public oversight, Anam mentioned that the handling of the case will also receive attention through mechanisms within the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He therefore expressed hope that all elements of society would participate in overseeing the investigation so that the case handling meets expectations and results in quality law enforcement.
