Kompolnas Supports Police in Elevating Sutrimo Death Case to Investigation Stage

National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam, known as Cak Anam, supports the police’s move to elevate the death of Sutrimo to the investigation stage. He considers this important so that the cause of death of the man said to have worked at the home of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Ardiansyah can be quickly revealed.

According to him, the inquiry process already carried out by the police, including gathering information from the family, is sufficient grounds for further examination through an investigation. Moreover, the family has also filed a report regarding the victim’s death.

“With this police report, plus the various information already obtained, I think it is indeed important for the police to immediately elevate this to an investigation process. The importance of the investigation process is to make it easier to shed light on the incident,” he told Republika on Monday (10/8/2026).

Cak Anam, as Choirul Anam is known, believes that upgrading the case status to the investigation stage will give the police room to manoeuvre. This includes applying a Scientific Crime Investigation (SCI) approach to determine the cause of Sutrimo’s death based on scientific evidence.

He cited the case as having drawn public attention because Sutrimo’s body allegedly had foam or fluid coming from his mouth. This allegation needs to be examined scientifically to determine whether it is related to the cause of death.

“Whether it was an ordinary death, a death due to illness, a death due to poisoning, or otherwise. These are the assumptions circulating. With investigation status and a scientific approach, I think the police can answer this,” he said.
