Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is overseeing the handling of the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, carried out by the Indonesian National Police (Polri), specifically the Metro Jaya Regional Police. “We have been monitoring it from the beginning since the case was released by YLBHI. Kompolnas immediately monitored the investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police,” said Kompolnas Commissioner Yusuf Warsyim when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to Yusuf, Polri is extremely serious in handling the case, which has captured the attention of the entire Indonesian public regarding freedom of democracy. “From our monitoring, Polri is very serious. Therefore, to ensure that this seriousness is known to the public, Polri needs to provide updates on the information to the public, the progress of the investigation,” Yusuf explained. In addition, Kompolnas is still coordinating with Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding the arrest of two suspected perpetrators in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus and whether there is any connection to the four TNI members secured by the TNI Central Military Police in relation to a similar case. “For now, Kompolnas is still coordinating with Metro Jaya Regional Police to confirm the arrest of four TNI personnel by the TNI Central Military Police, whether it is related to the investigation by Metro Jaya Regional Police,” he revealed. “Of course, if there is any connection, direct or indirect, we hope that Metro Jaya Regional Police can provide information to the public as an update on the investigation progress, which has been reported to suggest that there is more than one perpetrator,” he said. Previously, Metro Jaya Regional Police revealed two initials of the suspected perpetrators in the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Andrie Yunus. “At this time, we can inform that the two individuals we showed earlier, from Polri data, one with initials BHC, and one with initials MAK,” said the Director of Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner General of Police Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday. Nevertheless, Iman explained that based on the investigation results, it does not rule out the possibility that the number of perpetrators is more than four, as per the initial information provided and based on statements from several witnesses who have been questioned, namely 15 witnesses.
