Kompolnas Appreciates Police Transparency in Investigating Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) appreciates the Metro Jaya Regional Police for conducting the investigation into the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus in a transparent and accountable manner. Kompolnas views the investigative work of the Metro Jaya Police, which included showing photos of the perpetrators, as a form of openness.
“One of the most important things is that we express our thanks for the accountability and process that has been carried out so far. Because from the beginning, from the first day this incident occurred, we communicated and coordinated with our police colleagues, especially the Metro Jaya Regional Police, so that the process would indeed be carried out transparently and accountably,” said Kompolnas Commissioner Choirul Anam, or Cak Anak, at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
According to Cak Anam, the photo of the perpetrator shown by the Metro Jaya Police can be held accountable because it is based on CCTV footage. He assessed this work as openness to the public.
“This afternoon, we all saw it together; the accountability and transparency were demonstrated by playing the CCTV, showing the CCTV capture, and showing whoever is behind it that was captured by the CCTV,” he stated.
The openness in handling the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus is seen as an example for handling other cases. Thus, any suspected perpetrators proven by legal facts can be prosecuted.
“In our view, this is one of the important steps, as a role model for accountability and transparency. Therefore, let us all support together the transparent and accountable work by the police in uncovering this case as clearly as possible, as thoroughly as possible; whoever is behind this incident, when facing the law, if the facts are strong and the evidence is strong, they must be prosecuted to the maximum,” he added.
The police previously reported developments in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. The police displayed photos of the perpetrators who carried out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
“This is the result of capturing images from the CCTV that we have obtained. We emphasise to all colleagues that this was not altered or processed in any way. Thus, we can hold accountable that this is not the result of artificial intelligence,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imannudin.
Meanwhile, the TNI Military Police have detained four TNI members suspected of carrying out the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The TNI Military Police have also examined the perpetrators.
“Conducting police report activities, possibly later from the victim witness. Then carrying out temporary detention of the four suspects,” said the TNI Military Police Chief, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, in a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
