Kompas Survey: 80.6% of Public Assesses Police Performance as Improving, Decisiveness Praised

A total of 80.6% of respondents in a Kompas Research and Development survey assessed that the performance of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is improving. According to the survey, respondents see the police force reforming quickly, systematically, and decisively. The Kompas survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents, as observed on Friday (26/6/2026). The survey was held from 9 to 18 April 2026. Sampling was carried out randomly using a multistage systematic sampling method across 38 provinces. The margin of error is 2.83% with a 95% confidence level. This improved assessment of police performance has also shaped public satisfaction with the force. The satisfaction level increased from 65.1% to 67.6%. The majority of the public, according to the Kompas survey, believes that the police’s performance will continue to improve in the future. This significant positive trend for Polri is an appreciation from the public for the continuous reforms undertaken by the force. Respondents assessed that Polri is carrying out reforms in law enforcement, public services, and security matters. The public widely appreciates the firm sanctions imposed by police leadership on various violations committed by officers. A total of 94.3% of respondents were aware of these sanctions. The most decisive sanctions known to the public were those imposed on police officers involved in procedural shootings. Violence, infidelity, and drug trafficking/smuggling were also viewed as having received firm sanctions. The positive institutional image of Polri also rose significantly to 71.5% from the previous year’s 64.4%. According to the Kompas survey, this increase in the police’s positive image is linked to the extensive involvement of its officers as the state’s frontline Bhayangkara apparatus in the field.
