Komnas: YTR Case is Extreme, Multi-Layered Violence Against Women
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has stated that the violence against a woman, identified by the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency, West Java, constitutes multi-layered, extreme, sadistic, cruel, and dehumanising gender-based violence.
“We emphasise that the violence experienced by YTR is multi-layered, extreme, sadistic, cruel, and dehumanising gender-based violence against women. Komnas Perempuan’s position on this case has been firm from the beginning regarding efforts for victim protection and recovery. It remains unchanged,” said the Vice Chair of Komnas Perempuan, Ratna Batara Munti, in Jakarta on Sunday.
The commission also addressed previous statements made by Komnas Perempuan regarding the case, which had sparked public debate.
“Our statement during the press conference for International Day Against Torture on 26 June, which discussed the category of torture, was presented within the context of a dialogue regarding the Convention Against Torture (CAT),” said Ratna Batara Munti.
“This case has also resulted in extraordinary suffering and permanent disability for the victim,” added Ratna Batara Munti.
Ratna Batara Munti also expressed full support for all parties involved in the legal process and the victim’s recovery efforts.
“Komnas Perempuan supports all parties who have undertaken immediate and integrated efforts, including the roles of hospitals, caregivers, the community, local government, and law enforcement, who have acted swiftly to ensure the victim receives proper care,” she said.
