Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) is urging the implementation of the noble values of Pancasila in the state’s efforts to protect women’s human rights.

“Pancasila was born from the reflective process of the nation’s founders to establish a foundation for national governance based on noble values. These values guarantee protection, security, welfare, and justice for every citizen against colonialism that was characterised by arbitrariness, violence, and the degradation of human dignity,” said the Chair of Komnas Perempuan, Maria Ulfah Anshor, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She noted that while there has been significant progress in national governance—with Pancasila serving as a formal foundation in all policy documents, national development planning, and programmes—the core values are often overlooked in practice.

“However, the sublime values of Pancasila, particularly in policies related to women and their implementation, are still frequently ignored,” said Maria Ulfah Anshor.

According to her, this indicates a crisis of values in the actualisation of policies and the execution of development programmes. This crisis is evidenced by the high rates of violence against women. Throughout 2025, there were 376,529 recorded cases of gender-based violence against women, representing a 14.07 per cent increase compared to the number of cases in the previous year.
