Komnas: Sexual Violence Dominates Violence Against Women in 2025
The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) says that the most common form of violence against women in 2025 is sexual violence, totaling 22,848 cases. ‘The most common form of violence against women in 2025 is sexual violence, accounting for 22,848 cases, followed by psychological violence with 15,727 cases, physical violence with 14,126 cases, and economic violence with 5,942 cases,’ said Komnas Perempuan Deputy Chair Ratna Batara Munti at the launch of the 2025 Annual Note on Friday, 6 March 2026. In terms of domain, she said, within the personal sphere psychological violence was recorded in 2,315 cases. In the public sphere, she continued, sexual violence dominates with 2,050 cases. Meanwhile in the state sphere, psychological violence amounted to 243 cases. Overall, she said, the highest number of cases by form of violence occurred in the personal domain with a total of 6,204 cases, followed by the public domain with 3,026 cases, and the state domain with 353 cases. By province, violence against women was highest in West Java with 63,001 cases. This was followed by East Java with 46,179 cases, and Central Java with 44,790 cases. The data collected in the 2025 Komnas Perempuan Annual Note involved 97 institutions. The data in the Annual Note comprises a compilation of violence cases handled by various service institutions for women survivors of violence, both government-run and those formed by civil society. The Annual Note of Komnas Perempuan also includes data from law-enforcement agencies.
