Komnas Perempuan urges disaggregated data in disaster response

The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has stressed the importance of using disaggregated data in emergency disaster response to ensure vulnerable groups are properly assisted.

“Komnas Perempuan urges the provision of disaggregated data in every development of emergency disaster response,” said Komnas Perempuan Deputy Chair Dahlia Madanih when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday, responding to outreach and aid distribution for vulnerable groups in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) following the earthquake.

According to her, the availability of disaggregated data on more than 5,000 displaced people in NTT is key to ensuring that aid distribution and protection for vulnerable groups can be accurately targeted.

“In an emergency disaster situation, disaggregated data collection is the main tool for opening the door to access to aid and handling of affected victims,” said Dahlia Madanih.

She also encouraged the government to distribute supplies for vulnerable groups, including women, children, people with disabilities, and the elderly, so that specific support can be met promptly and evenly across Flores.

“Based on information from civil society, the urgent needs for vulnerable groups currently include blankets, adult diapers for the elderly, and specific needs for women and children to complement services in the field,” said Dahlia.

Meanwhile, the government has affirmed its commitment to accelerating emergency response and recovery following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the Flores region of NTT.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno stated that the presence of ministers and agency heads in NTT since the first day of the incident reflects the government’s concern and commitment to supporting affected communities.

“Since the first day of the incident, we have been in NTT to inspect the field and discuss accelerating recovery,” said the Coordinating Minister.
