Komnas Perempuan: Sexual Violence Dominates in 2025; West Java Records Highest Figures
Jakarta, Kompas.com - The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) says that the most common form of violence against women in 2025 is sexual violence, accounting for 22,848 cases. ‘The form of violence against women most prevalent during 2025 is sexual violence with 22,848 cases, followed by psychological violence with 15,727 cases, physical violence 14,126 cases, and economic violence 5,942 cases,’ said Deputy Chair Ratna Batara Munti at the launch of the 2025 Annual Report in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA on Friday, 6 March 2026. In the public sphere, she continued, sexual violence dominates with 2,050 cases. Meanwhile in the state sphere, psychological violence stands at 243 cases. Overall, she said, the highest total cases by form of violence are in the personal sphere, with 6,204 cases. The next concentration of cases is in the public sphere with 3,026 cases, and in the state sphere 353 cases. Regionally, the highest level of violence against women was recorded in West Java with 63,001 cases. Next on the list are East Java with 46,179 cases, and Central Java with 44,790 cases. The data compiled in Komnas Perempuan’s 2025 Annual Report involve 97 institutions. The data in the Annual Report of Komnas Perempuan comprises a compilation of violence cases handled by various service institutions for women who are victims of violence, both government-run and those established by civil society. The Annual Report of Komnas Perempuan also contains data from law enforcement agencies.
