Jakarta - The Chairperson of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), Maria Ulfah Anshor, has proposed an additional budget for the commission for 2027, bringing the total to IDR 54.2 billion to optimise the institution’s operations and functions. “The IDR 39.3 billion indicative ceiling for 2027 does not yet meet the minimum institutional needs and strategic mandate of Komnas Perempuan,” said Maria Ulfah Anshor during a Hearing Meeting with House of Representatives Commission XIII in Jakarta on Monday. Under the current ceiling, she explained, Komnas Perempuan can only prioritise the continuity of minimum services for victims of violence. Consequently, the functions of system strengthening, capacity development, and the commission’s strategic mandate cannot be optimally implemented. “Another impact is that the state’s independent ability to strengthen the women’s protection system also becomes limited,” Maria Ulfah Anshor added. The requested increase is intended to fund the institution’s priority programmes, including complaint reception services for cases of violence against women, strengthening institutional recommendations, monitoring recommendation outcomes, and case response. It would also cover salaries and operational costs, ICT programmes, facilities and infrastructure, and secretariat programmes. “The shortfall, or the figure we need to cover all operations, particularly related to complaint services so they can be improved, is IDR 14,900,200,000,” stated Komnas Perempuan Chairperson Maria Ulfah Anshor.
