Komnas Perempuan Praises Police for Swiftly Arresting Online Taxi Driver Who Harassed Passenger
Indonesia’s National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has praised the swift action by the Metro Jaya Police’s Directorate of Child and Women Protection (Ditres PPA-PPO) in handling a sexual harassment case perpetrated by an online taxi driver with the initials WAH (39) against his passenger. Komnas Perempuan views the rapid response from Metro Jaya Police as accelerating justice for the victim.
“Our appreciation to the investigators of Ditres PPA Metro Jaya Police for uncovering and arresting the perpetrator quickly, and we hope the case will soon be filed for trial,” stated Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Kombes (Ret.) Sundari Waris during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).
Sundari also emphasised that, in accordance with the Sexual Violence Crimes Law (TPKS), perpetrators of sexual violence must be dealt with firmly. Komnas Perempuan assures it will oversee the case until completion.
“In line with Komnas Perempuan’s mandate, we will continue to monitor both the legal process and the victim’s recovery,” she said.
She further hoped that this incident would lead to comprehensive prevention measures, particularly for sexual violence in online transportation, whether two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles.
Throughout 2025, Komnas Perempuan recorded eight reports of violence occurring during the use of online transportation. The most common cases were sexual violence.
“Komnas Perempuan recorded that throughout 2025, there were eight cases of violence against women as users of online transportation, with sexual violence being the highest,” Sundari revealed.
The prevalence of violence cases in online transportation is hoped to remain under close watch. According to her, all stakeholders must collaborate to suppress such incidents.
“This is something we need to be vigilant about together, and moving forward, to implement national prevention efforts on how we can reduce such occurrences,” Sundari stated.
The recent sexual violence case was committed by the online taxi driver with initials WAH (39). The case came to light after the victim uploaded a video of the perpetrator’s actions.
WAH has now been designated as a suspect and immediately detained by the police. WAH tested positive for consuming methamphetamine during the incident.
Meanwhile, the victim is still experiencing trauma. The victim is under the care of Ditres PPA-PPO and has been placed in a safe house for protection.
