Komnas HAM Urges Disclosure of Identities of Perpetrators in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case to the Public
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is urging the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to conduct the investigation into the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus transparently. Komnas HAM has even requested that the identities of the perpetrators be announced to the public.
“Komnas HAM is pushing for transparency in the law enforcement process, including promptly announcing the identities of the perpetrators to the public, involving external oversight in the law enforcement process, and providing access to Komnas HAM to meet and obtain statements from the suspects,” said Komnas HAM commissioner Saurlin P Siagian to reporters on Friday (3/4/2026).
Komnas HAM is known to have sought statements from several TNI officials regarding the handling of this acid attack terror case. Komnas HAM requested information from the Danpuspom, Kababinkum HAM, and Wakapuspen along with their teams.
Saurlin explained that they asked TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto to detail the investigation and prosecution processes carried out by the TNI. Saurlin said that the TNI’s investigation is nearly complete and is just awaiting the medical examination results and Andrie Yunus’s statement.
“Komnas HAM asked Danpuspom to explain the investigation and prosecution process for this case from the incident up to now. Puspom stated that they have named four suspects charged under Article 469 of the Criminal Code (aggravated assault) with alternatives under Article 467 paragraphs 1 and 2 (planned assault),” he said.
Saurlin revealed that the acid attack investigation is currently 80% underway. At present, he said, the TNI is only waiting for the victim’s medical examination results.
“Puspom stated that their investigation process is 80% complete, and the investigators are now awaiting the victim’s medical results from RSCM and the witness statement from victim AY,” he disclosed.
As is known, Andrie Yunus became the victim of an acid attack on Thursday night (12/3). TNI Puspom then arrested four individuals suspected of carrying out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The four are known to be members of Denma Bais TNI from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.
“We convey that these four suspected perpetrators are all members of TNI Denma Bais, not from any specific unit, but from TNI Denma Bais,” said TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3).
The four suspects are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. TNI Puspom is currently conducting further investigations.
