Komnas HAM to Summon TNI Regarding Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will summon TNI officials to seek information regarding the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of Kontras.
Komnas HAM’s Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner, Saurlin P Siagian, stated that the summons will take place after obtaining information from Metro Jaya Police.
“We will continue to monitor this case and in the near future we will summon TNI officials,” he said when met at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026).
“Of course, the highest authority is the TNI Commander, but we do not yet know who will attend,” he added.
He further explained that the summons also aims to clarify suspicions of TNI officers’ involvement in the acid attack.
Regarding proposals to bring the case to a general court, Saurlin said this will not be discussed in the meeting with TNI.
“We will focus on the questions we have prepared for TNI. That is a different recommendation; we will convey the recommendations at a different opportunity to the relevant parties,” he clarified.
He emphasised that Komnas HAM will still gather statements from various parties before compiling recommendations on handling the case.
“I think it won’t take long (the deadline for preparing recommendations) as there are not many parties left to question. TNI officials, experts, and possibly some victims or witnesses,” he added.
As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns to several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. The case is currently being investigated by both the National Police (Polri) and TNI.
From TNI’s investigation, four of its members were involved in the acid attack on the Kontras activist. The four TNI personnel are Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
“The four alleged perpetrators are from the TNI Military Police Intelligence Unit (Denma Bais TNI),” said TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police, Major General Yusri Nuryanto, during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
Yusri detailed the four TNI personnel as Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
“Their mother units are from the Navy and Air Force,” he said.
“So we are still investigating the motive,” he stressed.
