Komnas HAM to Examine Four TNI Members Involved in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist

Four members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) involved in throwing acid on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), will be examined by the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM). The examination is to deepen the evidence.

“Komnas HAM plans to request statements from the four suspects and other parties, seek expert testimony, and deepen the evidence,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian to reporters on Friday (3/3/2026), as reported by detikNews.

Saurlin could not yet provide details on the examination of the four TNI members. He only confirmed that the request letter would soon be sent to the TNI. Komnas HAM has also requested information from the TNI regarding the investigation process of the case.

“Komnas HAM has requested statements from the TNI, attended by Danpuspom, Kababinkum HAM, Wakapuspen, and their teams,” Saurlin revealed.

Saurlin stated that the TNI’s investigation is nearly complete. Currently, it is just awaiting the medical examination results and a statement from Andrie Yunus.

“Puspom stated that their investigation process has progressed 80% and the investigators are now awaiting the victim’s medical results from RSCM and the witness statement from victim AY,” said Saurlin.

Komnas HAM is urging the TNI’s investigation to proceed transparently. He requested that the perpetrators’ identities be announced and that his side be allowed to meet the suspects to take their statements.

“Komnas HAM is pushing for transparency in law enforcement processes, including promptly announcing the perpetrators’ identities to the public, involving external oversight in the law enforcement process, and providing access to Komnas HAM to meet and question the suspects,” Saurlin added.
