Komnas HAM Seeks Information from TNI on Acid Attack Case Against Andrie Yunus, Here Are the Results
The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has requested information from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) regarding the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. What are the results?
“Komnas HAM has conducted a request for information from the TNI, attended by the Head of the Military Police Centre, the Deputy Head of the Human Rights Law Enforcement Unit, the Deputy Head of Public Relations, and their staff,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian to reporters on Friday (3/3/2026).
Saurlin explained that they asked the TNI’s Head of Military Police, Major General Yusri Nuryanto, to detail the investigation and prosecution process conducted by the TNI. Saurlin stated that the TNI’s prosecution is nearly complete and is awaiting the victim’s medical examination results as well as a statement from Andrie Yunus.
“Komnas HAM asked the Head of Military Police to explain the investigation and prosecution process of this case from the incident until now. The Military Police Centre stated that they have named four suspects charged under Article 469 of the Criminal Code (aggravated assault) with alternatives under Article 467 paragraphs 1 and 2 (assault with premeditation),” he said.
“The Military Police Centre stated that their prosecution process has progressed 80% and currently the investigators are awaiting the victim’s medical examination results from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and the statement from witness-victim AY,” he continued.
Saurlin conveyed that Komnas HAM is urging the TNI’s prosecution process to be conducted transparently. He requested that the perpetrators’ identities be announced and that the commission be allowed to meet the suspects to take their statements.
“Komnas HAM is pushing for transparency in law enforcement processes, including promptly announcing the perpetrators’ identities to the public, involving external oversight in the law enforcement process, and providing access to Komnas HAM to meet and take statements from the suspects,” he added.
