Komnas HAM reveals investigation into Andrie Yunus case reaches 80 percent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has revealed developments in the investigation into the violent assault on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, handled by military apparatus, which has reached around 80 percent.
Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian stated that the information was obtained through coordination with investigators from the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom).
“The investigation process they are conducting has already progressed 80 percent,” Saurlin said after seeking information from TNI representatives at Komnas HAM in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He added that in the process, investigators have designated four suspects charged under Article 469 and Article 467 of the Criminal Code, respectively related to aggravated assault and premeditated assault.
Nevertheless, Saurlin stated that the investigation cannot yet be declared complete as it is still awaiting the completion of primary evidence, particularly from the victim.
“Currently, the investigators are awaiting the victim’s medical examination results from RSCM as well as statements from the victim’s witnesses,” he said.
Komnas HAM stated that the completion of evidence, including the medical examination and statements from the victim’s witnesses, is a crucial factor in strengthening the case construction before it is handed over to the next stage.
In addition to monitoring the investigation progress, Komnas HAM is also urging that the process runs transparently and opens space for external oversight to maintain accountability.
In further in-depth examination, Komnas HAM plans to seek statements from the suspects and bring in experts from various fields to strengthen the analysis and conclusions.
Such steps are deemed important to ensure that the legal process runs professionally and accountably, as well as supporting the law enforcement apparatus’s efforts in thoroughly investigating the violence case.
