The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has requested access from the TNI to examine four soldiers who are suspects in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Komnas HAM hopes to conduct the examination this week. “So when we requested information from the TNI side last week on Wednesday, one of the things we requested was for the investigation process at Pushom to proceed transparently. We requested three things, one of which was for Komnas HAM to be given access to meet the four perpetrators. That is what we are still coordinating; we requested it for next Friday. But we are waiting for approval from the Pushom side,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Pramono Ubaid during a press conference at his office on Wednesday (8/6/2026). Pramono stated that Pushom TNI has conveyed its commitment for the investigation and trial process to be transparent and accountable. Komnas HAM, continued Pramono, is stepping in to encourage that transparency with the TNI side. “Including one of them giving access to Komnas HAM to meet the four people,” he said. Meanwhile, Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian revealed the results of the deepening investigation regarding 12 people who claimed to have received threats following the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. He said that 90 percent of the data has been completed. “A little more and we will convey it to the public regarding those 12 people; we have what is called an SOP, based on that we conducted a deepening into these 12 people. We have obtained almost all of it; it won’t be long before we convey to the public what the status is, the human rights defence certificate to the 12 people,” he explained. Saurlin also revealed indications of threats received by those 12 people. He disclosed threats received via social media. “The indications we have obtained are threats through social media and the existence of numbers from unknown parties contacting the prospective human rights defenders that we analysed,” he said.
