The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) recommends strengthening legal handling and victim protection in the acid attack case against human rights activist Andrie Yunus.

Komnas HAM Chair Anis Hidayah stated that the incident indicates a serious human rights violation.

“Komnas HAM opines that the acid liquid attack on Andrie Yunus constitutes a human rights violation, as it is an act by a group of officials that intentionally limits, reduces, and or revokes the human rights of brother Andrie Yunus,” she said in Jakarta on Monday.

As follow-up, Komnas HAM recommends forming a joint fact-finding team to ensure objective and transparent case disclosure.

“To the President, the first is to encourage revision of the military court law to align with the TNI law and the Criminal Procedure Code, especially regarding TNI members committing criminal acts. The second is to form a joint fact-finding team to ensure thorough disclosure,” said Anis.

Additionally, Komnas HAM urges the police to continue the investigation to completion, including uncovering other perpetrators.

On the other hand, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is requested to provide protection, recovery, and medical and psychosocial assistance to the victim.

Komnas HAM assesses that implementing these recommendations is important to ensure justice for the victim while strengthening the human rights protection system in Indonesia.
