Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is urging ministries and agencies to promptly follow up on recommendations from its review and research for the 2025–2026 period, so as to have a tangible impact on fulfilling human rights.

This push was conveyed during a coordination meeting with ministries and agencies as an effort to strengthen the implementation of research findings, ensuring they do not remain at a conceptual level but are integrated into public policy.

Komnas HAM’s Commissioner for Review and Research, Uli Parulian Sihombing, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that there are six main studies forming the basis of the recommendations, covering criminal procedure law, protection of migrant workers, death penalty policy, agrarian conflicts, freedom of religion, and standards, norms, and regulations on the right to food.

“Komnas HAM, as a form of accountability in carrying out its review and research duties and functions, is holding a coordination meeting with ministries and agencies to convey the recommendations from the 2025–2026 review and research,” said Uli.

He explained that the recommendations aim to strengthen the momentum of the studies and research so that they are more effectively responded to and implemented by ministries and agencies, thereby contributing substantively to the respect, protection, and fulfilment of human rights.

In its presentation, Komnas HAM emphasised strengthening protections for suspects in the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), improving migrant worker governance from upstream to downstream, and reformulating the death penalty policy, which is deemed necessary to align with human rights principles.

In the agrarian sector, Komnas HAM recommends resolving conflicts on a human rights basis through cross-sectoral coordination and establishing a special institution under the President. Meanwhile, on the issue of freedom of religion, regulatory improvements are needed to make them more inclusive and non-discriminatory in establishing places of worship.

Additionally, Standards, Norms, and Regulations (SNP) Number 16 on the right to food is being promoted as a guideline for ministries and agencies in formulating food policies, including the implementation of strategic programmes such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).

According to Komnas HAM, ministries and agencies have welcomed the forum positively and expressed readiness to follow up on the recommendations in a more concrete and measurable manner.

Meanwhile, Komnas HAM Commissioner Amiruddin Al Rahab emphasised the importance of cross-sectoral follow-up continuity.

“With these Komnas HAM recommendations, we want to remind all government institutions of the importance of advancing human rights. It is hoped that from today’s coordination meeting, the next stage will emerge, namely further meetings and discussions with each ministry and agency to find formulas on how to implement them in state administration policies and regulations,” said Amiruddin.

Komnas HAM states that it will continue to conduct monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the recommendations are implemented sustainably and have an impact on protecting the rights of the community.
