Komnas HAM Pushes for Acid Attack Case Against Andrie Yunus to Be Tried in General Court
TNI headquarters has reported that four of its soldiers are suspected of involvement in the acid attack on anti-corruption activist Andrie Yunus. In response, the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is pushing for those rogue TNI soldiers to be tried in the general court.
“Komnas HAM itself is pushing for this case to be processed through the general court, because the TNI should not have such privilege, leading to impunity or crimes without punishment,” said Komnas HAM Chair Anis Hidayah to reporters on Thursday (19/3/2026).
Anis assessed that the acid attack case is not related to military offences. She then stated that Andrie Yunus’s advocacy has been related to the struggle for human rights, as regulated in the Criminal Code.
“Moreover, looking at this case, it is not related to military criminal offences. Because in this case, the victim is a civilian, and also a human rights activist who has been carrying out advocacy efforts related to human rights, especially related to TNI operations,” explained Anis.
“And the act (acid attack) is an act regulated in the Criminal Code, not related to military official duties,” she added.
Anis further conveyed the demand for the state to provide a swift, transparent, and accountable legal process in accordance with the ratification of international conventions. She noted that access to military courts has been closed to the public.
“Well, military courts have been closed to the public so far, so we are pushing for the trial to be transparent, accountable, and accessible to the public, and considering the above points, we want to push for the process to go through the general court,” she said.
Different Versions from TNI and Police
Previously, TNI and police had released developments in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. TNI and police released the suspected perpetrators in their respective press conferences at almost the same time on Wednesday afternoon.
However, both have their own versions regarding the number and initials of the perpetrators.
TNI’s Pushom revealed there are four BAIS TNI soldiers as suspected perpetrators. The four suspects are initialled Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant ES.
TNI Pushom Deputy Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto stated that the four suspects are members of the BAIS TNI Military Police Unit with naval (AL) and air force (AU) branches.
“We convey that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the BAIS TNI Military Police Unit, not from any specific unit but from the BAIS TNI Military Police Unit,” said Maj Gen Yusri during a press conference at TNI headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
Then, when asked further, Yusri stated that the four suspects are from AL and AU branches. “From AL and AU,” he added in response to the question.
Furthermore, Yusri also stated that three out of four suspects hold officer ranks. The highest, he continued, is captain rank.
“So Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant ES. During the investigation, we will work as maximally as possible with the hope that we can do it as quickly as possible professionally,” he said.
Police Version
Metro Jaya Police have announced two perpetrators who were the executors of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The two suspects are initialled BHC and MAK.
However, police suspect the total number of perpetrators involved in this acid attack is more than four people.
“Currently, we suspect that we can inform that the two people we showed earlier from one Police Data are one initialled BHC, two initialled MAK. However, from our investigation results, we do not rule out the possibility that the perpetrators could be suspected to be more than four,” said Director of Criminal Investigation Metro Jaya Police Commissioner Iman Imannudin at Metro Jaya Police headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
