Komnas HAM plans branch office in Palu

PALU, Central Sulawesi: The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) said on Monday it is exploring the possibility of opening a representative office in Palu, Central Sulawesi.

The new branch office would be responsible for monitoring and dealing with human rights issues across Sulawesi island, deputy Komnas HAM chairperson Zoemrotin K. Susilo said in Palu after discussing the plan with Central Sulawesi Deputy Governor Rully Lamdjido.

Zoemrotin said that in performing its duty of monitoring human rights violations across the vast archipelagic country, her commission faced geographic problems.

So far, Komnas HAM has established representative offices in Papua, West Kalimantan, West Sumatra, Aceh and Maluku.

Apart from Palu, the commission is also planning to set up new branch offices in the Riau Islands and East Nusa Tenggara, Zoemrotin said.

She said that she hoped the Central Sulawesi administration would provide offices for the new branch office in Palu.

Rully Lamdjido said his administration welcomed the plan. --Antara
