Komnas HAM on bomb attack
Komnas HAM on bomb attack
From Media Indonesia
The terrorist bomb attack on the JW Marriott Hotel in
Kuningan, Jakarta on Aug. 5 -- which resulted in the deaths of at
least 10 people and dozens injured, as well as material
destruction -- is a direct violation of human rights such as the
right to life, which can in no way be derogated, the right to
freedom from fear and the right to security.
The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) strongly
condemns the bombing and offers condolences to all victims and
their families. At the same time, we make the following appeal:
The government should thoroughly investigate the case and take
stern action against perpetrators of the bombing. It should also
make effective prevention efforts by intensifying the state
intelligence operation.
The public should avoid provocation and increase alertness in
relevant environs, while supporting security personnel in
performing their duty.
Developments in the government's investigation should be
announced publicly in an accurate and comprehensive manner, so
that the public will be dissuaded from listening to rumors, which
might increase insecurity and fear.
