Komnas HAM: No Difference in Initials of Suspects in Andrie Yunus Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has confirmed that there is no significant difference regarding the initials of the suspected perpetrators between the statements from Metro Jaya Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) and the TNI in the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus on Thursday night (12/3). “We have confirmed that the difference in initials is not significant. They say it’s approximately the same person. It’s the same person,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation Saurlin P. Siagian in an interview at the Komnas HAM building in Jakarta on Monday. He also stated that Metro Jaya Regional Police is currently conducting intensive investigations into the involvement of TNI members as suspected perpetrators in the case. “Metro Jaya Regional Police is still delving into the involvement of TNI parties. They are still carrying out further investigation processes. We will wait for the results of the investigation,” he said. Furthermore, Komnas HAM has also confirmed the involvement of TNI members in the case, in line with the confirmation from Metro Jaya Regional Police that the four suspected perpetrators are personnel from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). “As stated in the release by Metro Jaya Regional Police, it has been confirmed that they are from BAIS of the TNI,” he revealed. In addition, he explained that the TNI has also received several documents required for the investigation into the acid attack case carried out by four BAIS TNI personnel. “Metro Jaya Regional Police has handed over several documents needed by the TNI side. That’s what we obtained,” he clarified. Komnas HAM has also received statements from Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding developments in the Andrie Yunus case during a three-hour investigation. The statements were provided by the Head of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police and police officials. To complete the monitoring, Komnas HAM has obtained facts on case developments from the police and states that the police’s statements are sufficient as follow-up to the monitoring conducted. “We have also obtained a lot of information from Metro Jaya Regional Police; we think it’s sufficient. Several facts that we need now have been provided, and we are still requesting a few more things from Metro Jaya Regional Police to be submitted to us,” he said.
