Komnas HAM Member Calls for Examination of Former BAIS Head in Andrie Yunus Case
JAKARTA - A member of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Amiruddin Al Rahab, has urged that the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, be examined in the case of the acid attack on Kontras activist Andrie Yunus.
He stated that the removal from the BAIS head position is a good signal as accountability from the leadership in the BAIS agency.
Amiruddin said that an examination needs to be conducted on Lieutenant General Yudi by the TNI’s Danpuspom in a transparent manner.
He stated that the examination is necessary to ensure the degree of involvement as well as the command responsibility of the leaders and members who planned the action.
According to Amiruddin, in the context of human rights protection and fulfilment, every use of state facilities and abuse of authority by officials and state apparatus must be legally accountable.
“The TNI Commander needs to open access to the parties, especially Komnas HAM, to be able to delve into the involvement of each TNI member suspected of being directly involved and those who participated in the acid attack incident on the night of 12 March 2026,” he said.
Because terror incidents like the one experienced by Andrie Yunus have occurred several times, without any clarity and adequate legal accountability.
Previously reported, four soldiers from the Indonesian National Army’s (TNI) Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were involved in the acid attack on the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.
From that announcement, it was revealed that the TNI’s Puspom has detained four BAIS TNI soldiers with initials Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES before being transferred to Pomdam Jaya.
They are from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches of the TNI. Two of the four suspects are the executors of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. However, the other two are still under examination.
Nevertheless, the TNI’s Puspom has not yet disclosed the detailed roles, motives, and complete chronology of the attack.
Most recently, TNI BAIS Head Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo has resigned from his position following the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.
