JAKARTA — Indonesia’s National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) summoned the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to seek information about alleged restrictions on internet and social media access during demonstrations in August 2026. During the questioning, Komdigi acknowledged taking down 486 posts on 27 August 2026.

Komnas HAM commissioner Saurlin P Siagian said the summons followed complaints from several parties about alleged restrictions on access to information during the demonstrations. Komnas HAM had carried out its duty by gathering information from Komdigi.

“We asked for information about two issues reported to Komnas HAM by various parties: alleged internet restrictions and alleged restrictions on social media,” Saurlin told reporters after meeting Komdigi representatives in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (13 October 2026).

Saurlin said the meeting lasted about two hours and was attended by three Komdigi representatives. He added that Komnas HAM had sought an explanation of whether internet access was restricted and what action had been taken against social media content.
