JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has not yet determined the acid attack on Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, as a human rights violation.

Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation at Komnas HAM, Saurlin P Siagian, stated that the commission is currently conducting an internal investigation into the case.

“We have not yet determined it, but common sense suggests yes, including human rights norms and the definition of human rights and human rights violations in Law 39, it meets the criteria as a human rights violation,” Saurlin said when met at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026).

“We must hold a meeting first. Normatively, it is so, but procedurally, we must determine it in a recommendation,” he added.

Komnas HAM is currently gathering statements from various parties before formulating a conclusion and final recommendation.

This includes requesting information from the Metro Jaya Police and plans to summon TNI representatives in the near future.

Meanwhile, Coordinator of the Sub-Commission for Human Rights Enforcement, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, added that Komnas HAM will complete the investigation into the case soon.

“We are not setting a date (for preparing the recommendation), but we promise to handle this case as quickly as possible,” he said.

For context, Deputy Coordinator of Kontras, Andrie Yunus, became a victim of an acid attack by unknown individuals on Thursday night (12/3/2026) in the Senen area, Central Jakarta.

As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns to several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. The case is currently being investigated by both the National Police (Polri) and the TNI.

“The four alleged perpetrators are from the TNI’s Bais Denma,” said TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police, Major General Yusri Nuryanto, during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Yusri detailed the four TNI personnel by their initials: Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.

“Their branches are from the Navy and Air Force,” he said.

The four soldiers have been secured and detained at the Jaya Military District Police. Nevertheless, Yusri has not announced their roles or motives in the acid attack on the activist.

“So we are still investigating the motive,” he emphasised.
