Komnas HAM Deepens Protection for 12 Individuals in Andrie Case
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) states that it is currently conducting an assessment or evaluation of protection requests for 12 individuals who are under threat in the acid attack case involving Andrie Yunus. The Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner of Komnas HAM, Saurlin P. Siagian, said that his institution has also coordinated with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency regarding this request.
“We are profiling all these threats to later issue a human rights advocacy letter,” said Saurlin at the Komnas HAM office on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
Saurlin did not mention the identities of the 12 applicants for security reasons. However, he stated that Komnas HAM will expedite the ongoing assessment process.
Saurlin explained that based on incoming reports, these 12 individuals are experiencing intimidation and threats in the form of digital attacks to being contacted by unknown phone numbers.
Yesterday, the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) along with the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) mentioned threats and intimidation targeting legal representatives and networks of human rights activists in the Andrie Yunus acid attack case.
Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of Kontras, Jane Rosalina, said that the protection request is an important effort to anticipate increasingly volatile risks during advocacy for the Andrie case.
“This is a preventive and mitigation step,” said Jane at the Komnas HAM office on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
In addition to submitting the protection request, Jane added that TAUD is also urging Komnas HAM to accelerate the investigation and issue recommendations to ensure the Andrie case proceeds transparently, independently, and comprehensively.
Previously, Andrie Yunus was doused with a corrosive chemical on 12 March. The liquid thrown by a member of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency damaged and injured the body of this Deputy Coordinator of Kontras.
Legal and Public Relations Manager of RSCM, Yoga Nara, said that in the next week, Andrie will undergo further skin grafting to replace dead skin areas on the back of his neck.
In addition, Yoga recounted that Andrie recently underwent a third operation on his right eye on 28 March 2026. During the surgery, it was found that the corneal surface was thinning further and there was leakage in the eyeball wall.
