Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is still gathering evidence related to the suspected attack on Andrie Yunus (AY) as part of efforts to ensure fair and accountable law enforcement.

“This also includes statements from the parties involved, electronic evidence, expert testimonies, and other evidence to strengthen the results of monitoring the case,” said members of Komnas HAM’s Monitoring and Investigation Team for the case, Pramono U Tanthowi and Saurlin P. Siagian, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday.

It was explained that these efforts are part of pushing for a comprehensive revelation of other alleged perpetrators involved in the case.

However, Komnas HAM also acknowledges facing obstacles in the deepening process, particularly regarding access to examine certain parties.

“We are still striving to gather evidence, including efforts to examine the defendants, for which we have not yet obtained permission from the TNI to this day,” they said.

In deepening the case, Komnas HAM assesses that the number of perpetrators already designated does not reflect all parties involved.

“We strongly suspect that the perpetrators involved in this case are not just the four people who have been made suspects and prospective defendants,” they stated.

On that basis, Komnas HAM urges the police to continue the investigation process to uncover other perpetrators, including the possibility of involvement from parties outside the military element.

“We urge the National Police to continue the investigation process to uncover the identities of other perpetrators who are strongly suspected of being involved in this case,” they said.

“If the National Police face obstacles, we encourage the government to consider forming a Joint Fact-Finding Team,” they added.

According to Komnas HAM, comprehensive disclosure is important to prevent misidentification of perpetrators while ensuring all involved parties can be held legally accountable.

“Fair, transparent, and accountable law enforcement is important to avoid misidentification of perpetrators and prevent potential impunity,” they said.

These efforts are seen as an important part in providing a deterrent effect and preventing similar incidents from recurring in the future.
