JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is still examining several scenarios for the legal handling of the acid attack on the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.

Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner, Saurlin P. Siagian, stated that they have not yet decided on the recommendation for the legal mechanism because the process of gathering statements is still ongoing.

“We will continue to request statements from various parties and, of course, there are many scenarios ahead, both the best and the worst, of course. We are still weighing many scenarios,” said Saurlin when met at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026).

“We will discuss it after we complete the requests for statements from various parties. Of course, there are many scenarios, general courts being one of the ideal ones, but we must discuss it,” he explained.

In addition, Komnas HAM is also considering other options, such as the formation of a fact-finding team (TPF) or inter-agency connectivity mechanisms among law enforcement institutions.

“There are many choices, but we must first discuss what the final recommendation from Komnas HAM will be,” Saurlin stated.

He emphasised that the official recommendation will only be conveyed after the entire monitoring process and requests for statements from various parties are completed.

For context, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus became a victim of an acid attack by unknown individuals on Thursday night (12/3/2026) in the Senen area, Central Jakarta.

As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns to several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Currently, the case is being investigated by the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

“The four suspected perpetrators are from the TNI’s Denma Bais,” said TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Yusri explained that the four soldiers come from two branches.

“They are from the Navy and Air Force,” he said.

The four soldiers have been arrested and detained at Pomdam Jaya. However, to date, the motive and roles of each perpetrator are still under investigation.

“So we are still delving into the motive,” he stressed.
