Komnas HAM Confirms Initials of Suspects in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus Do Not Differ
Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation at the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Saurlin P. Siagian, has emphasised that there is no significant difference in the initials of the perpetrator in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus between statements from Metro Jaya Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
“The difference in initials that we confirmed is not significant. They said it’s approximately the same person. It’s the same person,” Saurlin stated at the Komnas HAM building in Jakarta on Monday (30/3).
He explained that Metro Jaya Police are still conducting in-depth investigations into the alleged involvement of TNI members in the case.
“Metro Jaya Police are still delving into the involvement of TNI parties. They are still carrying out further investigation processes. We will wait for the results of their investigation,” he said.
Komnas HAM has also confirmed that the four suspected perpetrators involved in the case are personnel from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS).
“As per the release already issued by Metro Jaya Police, it is confirmed that they are from BAIS on the TNI side,” he revealed.
In the investigation process, Saurlin mentioned that the police have handed over several documents to the TNI to support the case handling. “The PMJ side has handed over several documents needed by the TNI side. That’s what we obtained,” he clarified.
Furthermore, Komnas HAM has received an update on the case development from Metro Jaya Police in a three-hour meeting, presented directly by police officials.
“We have also obtained a lot of information from Metro Jaya Police; we think it’s sufficient. The facts we need now have been conveyed in several matters, and we are still requesting a few more things from Metro Jaya Police to be submitted to us,” he concluded.
