REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Komnas HAM is convinced that the perpetrators of the acid attack on Kontras activist Andrie Yunus involved more than four people. Komnas HAM suspects there are still other perpetrators who have not been apprehended. Regarding the transfer of Andrie’s case by the Military Prosecutor to the Military Court, Komnas HAM states that one of its focuses is the right to fair law enforcement for the perpetrators. “From the in-depth investigation we have conducted, we strongly suspect that the perpetrators involved in this case are not just four people, as they have been made suspects and defendants,” said the Monitoring and Investigation Team for the AY case, Komnas HAM, Pramono U. Tanthowi, in his statement on Friday (17/4/2026). Therefore, Komnas HAM urges the National Police to continue the investigation process. This is to uncover the identities of other perpetrators who are strongly suspected to be involved in this case. “This is important to ensure whether all the other perpetrators have a military background, or if there is involvement from civilians,” Pramono stated. If the National Police face obstacles in uncovering the identities of the other perpetrators, Komnas HAM encourages the government to consider forming a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF). This is because both Kontras and Komnas HAM have found perpetrators numbering in the teens. “With a strong mandate, we are optimistic that the TGPF will be able to overcome structural and psychological obstacles to uncover this incident,” Pramono said. Komnas HAM also emphasises that fair, transparent, and accountable law enforcement for the perpetrators is very important to monitor for two reasons. First, to prevent misidentification of perpetrators (error in persona); and second, to ensure that some other strongly suspected perpetrators can still be held accountable, thus avoiding potential impunity. “The intended legal efforts are expected to have a deterrent effect on anyone involved, and to prevent similar actions in the future,” Pramono stated.
