The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) has urged the formation of a joint fact-finding team (TGPF) to thoroughly investigate the acid attack on its activist, Andrie Yunus. Public spaces are also calling for the TGPF to be established so that this case can be uncovered comprehensively.

Regarding the strengthening demands for the formation of the TGPF, Komnas HAM Commissioner Amiruddin sees three driving factors. According to him, the public must be given broad access to know the process of handling this acid attack case.

“First, the investigation and prosecution by the TNI alone over the incident that befell Andrie Yunus will have low legitimacy in the eyes of the public. Because the space for the public will be limited to know the process and developments of the investigation. Because the law enforcement process internally in the TNI tends to be very closed,” said Amiruddin to reporters on Friday (10/4/2026).

In addition, Amiruddin emphasised the factor of past trauma. He said that in the past, many incidents of legal and human rights violations examined by the TNI almost had no clarity at the end, even the cases could just evaporate.

The investigation and prosecution by the TNI will be problematic if viewed from the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Because the Military Criminal Procedure Code regulated by Law No. 31/1997 is certainly far outdated from the current KUHAP, especially regarding the treatment of witnesses and victims.

“To address these three issues, it would be good for the Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights, Imipas, to take the initiative to form a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) for the incident that befell Andrie Yunus,” he said.

According to Amiruddin, the TGPF can also ensure that the legal process does not stop only at the four names of individuals previously announced by the TNI’s Danpuspom.

“The TGPF will be able to bridge public doubts over the investigation by the TNI on one side, and on the other side, the TGPF will be able to maintain the transparency of the investigation in the TNI,” added Amiruddin.

Previously, KontraS urged President Prabowo Subianto to take political steps by forming a TGPF for the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.

“We also request that this forum can encourage the president to issue a political decision, namely forming a joint fact-finding team,” said KontraS Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya during a hearing at Commission III of the DPR in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3).

He explained that the push for the formation of the TGPF is driven by obstacles in handling this case, both from a formal legal perspective and political factors. According to Dimas, this case does not only impact the victim individually.

He said that this acid terror case also has the potential to create broader effects on the work of civil society, particularly in human rights advocacy.

“In this case, the victim factor is not just Andrie Yunus. We argue that the threat attack on Andrie Yunus, the attack on Andrie Yunus, can also become a domino effect in the future,” he stated.

KontraS assesses that an independent TGPF is needed to uncover this case comprehensively, not only the field perpetrators, but also the intellectual actors and the motives behind it. In addition, KontraS urges that the resolution of this case be carried out through the general judiciary mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability of the legal process.

“And finally, we urge that the resolution of this case be through the general judiciary mechanism,” he said.
