Komnas HAM: Andre Yunus Recovery Process Estimated at Two Years
The recovery process for KontraS activist Andrie Yunus is estimated to take two years. Andrie Yunus became a victim of an acid attack in mid-March 2026.
Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian stated that the two-year recovery process is due to the injuries suffered by Andrie Yunus. This is based on information from the medical team.
“Surgeries are still ongoing and will continue for six months to two years ahead for recovery,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday (26/3).
The burns on Andrie Yunus’s body, he said, were caused by a strong acidic chemical. Within six months, Saurlin explained, the medical team needs to ensure the response and condition of Andrie Yunus’s body to proceed with further medical actions.
Komnas HAM Mediation Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi added that the medical treatment being carried out has been intensive and measured.
He mentioned that the part of Andrie Yunus’s eyes affected by the acid is still being analysed. The medical team has not yet been able to conclude.
Komnas HAM is conducting an in-depth review with the medical team from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) regarding the short-term and long-term impacts of the acid attack case.
Komnas HAM will also compile recommendations for handling based on victim rights protection.
RSCM Legal and Public Relations Manager Yoga Nara explained that the medical team found ischaemia in about 40 percent of the area around the lower sclera of the right eye, causing tissue thinning. Andrie Yunus is being treated by a team of eye specialists and plastic surgeons.
The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) guarantees all costs for Andrie Yunus’s treatment and recovery.
The investigation focus is not only on physical injuries but also on the long-term psychological impacts experienced by Andrie Yunus due to the acid attack.
