JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has acknowledged facing challenges in the deepening process of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, particularly regarding access to examine certain parties.

“We are still working on gathering evidence, including efforts to examine the defendants, for which we have not yet obtained permission from the TNI as of today,” said members of Komnas HAM’s Monitoring and Investigation Team for the case, Pramono U Tanthowi and Saurlin P. Siagian, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026).

“This also includes statements from parties, electronic evidence, expert testimonies, and other material evidence to strengthen the monitoring results of the case,” they said.

In addition, the institution is finalising a monitoring report that will soon be submitted in the form of recommendations to relevant parties, while continuing an assessment of alleged intimidation against 12 other human rights activists.

In the case deepening, Komnas HAM assesses that the number of perpetrators who have been designated does not reflect the full extent of those involved.

“We strongly suspect that the perpetrators involved in this case are not just the four people who have been named as suspects and prospective defendants,” they stated.

“We urge the National Police to continue the investigation process to uncover the identities of other perpetrators who are strongly suspected of being involved in this case,” they added.

Komnas HAM is also opening the option of forming a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) if there are obstacles in the disclosure process.

“If the National Police faces challenges, we encourage the government to consider establishing a TGPF,” they said.

“Fair, transparent, and accountable law enforcement is important to avoid misidentification of perpetrators and to prevent potential impunity,” they emphasised.

Such efforts are considered an important part in providing a deterrent effect and preventing similar incidents from recurring in the future.
