Jakarta — The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has been coordinating with the family of Andrie Yunus, a victim of an acid attack, to monitor his condition at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in central Jakarta.

Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Coordinator of Komnas HAM’s Human Rights Enforcement Subcommission, said the coordination has been ongoing for several days, with visits made on Friday (13 March) and Monday (16 March) accompanied by several Komnas HAM commissioners.

“Several of our commissioners have visited the hospital twice over the past few days. Last Friday, two commissioners—Ms Anis and Ms Atnike—visited, and yesterday two other commissioners, Mr Saurlin and Mr Amiruddin, went to the hospital,” he said at a press conference at Komnas HAM headquarters in central Jakarta on Tuesday.

In addition to monitoring the victim’s condition, Pramono explained that the coordination aimed to ensure the victim received the best possible medical care.

“We met with the family to ensure that the victim’s treatment is receiving the best medical care possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, Saurlin P. Siagian, Komnas HAM’s Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation, said the commission continues to monitor the victim’s condition daily, although RSCM has not yet permitted visits due to the victim being in a high care unit (HCU).

“Yesterday afternoon we were unable to meet with Andrie as he remains in the HCU. He still cannot be visited by anyone. We will continue to monitor Andrie’s situation at RSCM on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

Victim protection is being carried out in cooperation with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), which will cover all hospital costs and medical procedures.

“We also enquired about financing and communicated with LPSK. LPSK is processing the financing, though we do not yet know which ministry or other agencies might assist. As of yesterday afternoon, we received information that LPSK is supporting the financing,” he said.
