Komeng Quips About Shared Ambition with Prabowo Ahead of State Address

Member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Alfianyah Bustami, also known as Komeng, joked when asked about his hopes for President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD on Friday (14/8).

Komeng admitted that he had no particular hopes. He and the President both simply want to become champions.

“The President and I are not asking for hopes, but for first place,” said Komeng, greeted by laughter from journalists ahead of the session at the parliamentary complex.

When asked what kind of champion he meant, he said a champion in line with the people’s wishes.

“Well, I mean what the people are thinking about,” he said briefly.

Furthermore, the DPD member from West Java expressed hope that Indonesia will become a prosperous nation in the future, in accordance with the will and aspirations of the nation’s founders.

“What was envisioned by our founders should truly be worthy of becoming prosperous,” he said.

Prabowo delivered two speeches at the session. His first speech was delivered during the MPR annual session, which began at 10.00 WIB, in which he presented the government’s performance report over the past year.

Meanwhile, the second speech was delivered starting at 14.00 WIB, concerning the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN).

A number of ambassadors from friendly nations, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, heads of state institutions, and other invited guests attended the state event.

The invitation list also included former presidents and vice presidents, former leaders of the MPR, DPR and DPD, as well as ambassadors.
